Summary: Sixteen students are gathered in an open underground space that looks like it might have been part of a factory at one point. There is a large, round passageway with a sign pointing to it that helpfully says "Exit." They comment that this is surprisingly considerate of someone, and possibly dangerous, but they decide to head in anyway.
Kaede: No need to worry! It looks a bit dangerous, but we're all Ultimates here! As long as we work together, everything will work out just fine! Shuichi: Y-Yeah... You're right. Kaito: That's exactly what I was gonna say! We're really on the same wavelength, Kaede! Gimme a hug! Kaede: Um...no.
They head into the tunnel, which contains an incredibly frustrating side-scroller minigame, where all sixteen students "die" before they make it past the first screen of obstacles. That is, they are knocked out by various traps and wake up sore and back where they started.
They sit around on the ground exhausted and shocked for a moment. Shortly, Monokuma and the Monokubs show up. Kaito yells a bit about how Monokuma finally figured out what they were doing, but Monokuma just tells them he knew what they were up to the whole time.
Maki: If you knew all along, then this was just a trap. Tenko: Then there *was* no exit! You tricked us! Monophanie: ...No, there's an exit. Monotaro: I think you guys'll manage to reach it if you all work together! Monophanie: Yeah! There's nothing you 16 Ultimates can't accomplish if you work together! Monokuma: Puhuhu. And if first you don't succeed... ...try, try again. Try as many times as you want until you accept reality! Ah-hahahaha!
The stuffed bears exit. The students discuss how this was all a ploy to kill their spirits by leaving that small bit of hope and then crushing it.
Kaede: Yeah, but we can't just give up... Right, you guys? I mean, we've only failed once, y'know. We can't give up this early, right? Himiko: But... isn't getting out of here impossible? Kaede: No, it's not. It may take one more try or a lot more tries, but it's not impossible. Forget about Monokuma. It doesn't matter what he says to us. I don't wanna lose to him! And I don't want any of you to lose, either! I refuse to lose to someone who would do these terrible things to us!
Everyone is pretty touched. Kaede offers that once they make it out of this place, they should all stay friends. Everyone agrees.
Kaito: Anyway, it doesn't matter if Monokuma says it's impossible! We'll show him what we can do! Kaede: Yeah, you're right! Kokichi: Yeah, let's work together! We messed up last time, but I'm sure it will go well this time!
They attempt the corridor again. It does not go much better this time. They wake up in pain at the entrance again.
Miu: W-What the... And I was looking forward to a happy ending... Kokichi: Not yet! We're just getting started!
They try again. And again. And again. And again.
Gonta: Failed... again. Kaito: Damn it...! Tsumugi: I can't... go on... Kaede: Wait, we can't give up. This time, we'll-- Kokichi: ...Knock it off already. Kaede: Huh? Kokichi: You're free to keep trying on your own, but forcing us to join you is basically torture. Kaede: T-Torture? Kokichi: You know what really hurts? Being denied the right to give up in an impossible situation... You won't let us give up and no matter what we say, you have the moral high ground... That... doesn't sound like torture to you? When you say we can't give up, you're not inspiring us—you're strong-arming us! Kaede: I-I didn't mean it like that... Tenko: H-Hey, degenerate! Quit being so selfish! Kokichi: I-I'm not being selfish... The others feel the same way, too... Kaede: What? E-Everyone...?
Most people look worn out and avoids eye contact as they agree it makes most sense to give up.
Maki: I knew this was impossible from the start.
A couple people don't agree.
Gonta: P-Please, wait! We... no can give up! Kaito: You guys! Are you really okay with not getting out of this place?! Kokichi: We shouldn't have to push ourselves... Let's just find another way out, okay? Kaede: What?! Rantaro: ...You're talking about the killing game, aren't you? Kokichi: Oh, so you're gonna interpret it like that, huh? Tenko: Wh-What are you saying?! There's no way we can do the killing game! Kokichi: Nee-heehee... Calm down. Want some bubble gum? You can blow pretty big bubbles with it.
They devolve into squabbling, and Ryoma comments they fell apart pretty quick for people trying to work together.
Kaede: I'm sorry... this is my fault. I'm so sorry... Shuichi: No, Kaede... Kaito: I-Idiot! What're *you* apologizing for?! It's not your fault at all! Maki: ...Really? I think it is Kaede's fault. Kaito: H-Huh?! Why?!
The school bell chimes and the Monokubs announce it is now Night Time. Everyone decides to call it a day and rest at the dorms which are apparently there for them. It seems like this is the first night they've been here. Rantaro gives an ominous warning not to let their guards down, and everyone disperses to climb the long ladder back to the surface, though Kaito and Shuichi linger to talk to Kaede.
