Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko pull themselves out of a pile of rubble in what's left of the school. It's been thoroughly destroyed; all the buildings are demolished, and the sky above them is cracked, confirming that it's a false dome - but beyond it is bright, clear sunlight and not apocalyptic wasteland.
They wonder why they're alive. They definitely planned to sacrifice their lives. In the end they conclude that Keebo must have saved them - and since Keebo is the audience surrogate, maybe that means that the outside world wanted them to live.
They turn to the cracked dome, where they can now exit; they don't really have any other choice but to do so. They wonder what the world out there is like.
Maki: A peaceful world with no fighting or despair. That's what Tsumugi said, right? Shuichi: Yeah. Ah... if she wasn't lying.
Shuichi goes into some speculation - the last thing Tsumugi said was that she was a copycat criminal, which might imply that some of what she previously said was fiction was real, if she "copied" it. So, she might have been lying when she told them that this was all fiction. On the other hand, she might have been lying about the "copying" thing. At the very least, Shuichi can't make himself believe that she was telling the truth when she told them they volunteered for the killing game. (Though she did show them videos, so those would need to be faked too.) Even if they were fans, he just can't believe that they'd want to participate.
Ultimately they conclude there's really no way to know anything for sure. They'll see some things when they go to the outside world... but maybe the world out there is fictional or full of lies too. Shuichi offers that maybe this doesn't even matter, and there's not actually much difference between truth and lies if they can both affect the world in both good and bad ways. All that matters is the result.
So, in the end, they know nothing at all for sure and maybe it doesn't matter. THE END!
